MCN WiFi
We have a WiFi network in the following halls of residence/rooms that you can use:
- Prof. Holtz Straße
- B3
- Am Schwanenteich
- Wohnheim 2 basement
- Wohnheim 3 K-14
For the connection you need the following settings:
- Name/SSID: MCN-WLAN
- EAP: PEAP
- Phase-2: MSCHAPV2
- Certificate: see below
- Identity: University login name
- Password: University login password
Certificate
In order to be able to select the right certificate, the university's Eduroam network must first be set up. You can find the instructions for this in the university wiki. After doing that, you can select the same certificate for the MCN WiFi as for the Eduroam network.
If there is no way around it, "Do not validate" will also work. For your own safety, you should always use the certificate.
Using a Router
For all other rooms you need your own WiFi router for internet access. Devices that support Wi-Fi 5 are recommended, e.g.
- TP-Link Archer C20 or Archer C50
- TP-Link Archer C5 or Archer C6
Note that the device must be a wireless router. Access Points and DSL routers will most likely
not work properly.
Avoid Speedport, EasyBox and 1&1 devices.
Instructions for setting up Fritzbox models can be found here. For all other routers, the setup should look something like this:
- Find MAC address and register it. The MAC address should either be on the back of the router or can be found in the web interface under "WAN-MAC".
- Alternatively: Connect the router and then check here if the router appears under "Connected devices". Then you can simply copy the MAC from there.
- Connect the router's "WAN" or "Internet" port (usually blue) to the socket in your room.
